QUESTION
Can one justify touting DEI on home soil, while profiting abroad in countries where LGBTQI+ people are criminalized and violently brutalized. Can one continue to operate at all?

Over 30 countries criminalize LGBTQI+ people with draconian penal codes from the colonial era. Several countries in East and West Africa have either enacted or are introducing harsher legislation proscribing life imprisonment and even the death penalty for LGBTQI+ people.
Nonetheless multinational corporations, to include many which have implemented progressive DEI policies continue to operate in these countries, deriving profit in these anti- human rights environments, and are by virtue of their failure to address these issues, complicit in policies that discriminate, persecute and license violence against LGBTQI+ people.
Full briefings and consultation will answer the questions that this raises for your multinational business, and will also address your organization’s accountability. It will provide insight into how you can impact change to improve these environments and conditions for Africa’s LGBTQI+ communities.
